Sadie's Story

1. What made you choose to adopt not shop?

We choose adoption always, there is more than enough dogs available. Just takes time for the right one to find you. You always get the dog you need, not the one you want!

2. What is Sadie's backstory?

We adopted Sadie (previously Rhianna) as the family who initially adopted her lacked the skill set to work with a reactive rescue dog, to which she developed aggressive behaviours and was unable to leave a room for 15 months. she was rehomed to us and we’ve had her 10 months now and she’s just perfect.

3. What was the most surprising thing you found about adopting a street dog?

Most surprising thing we found was just how smart they are. Very easily trained, eager to please and devoted to their people.

4. What were some challenges, and how did you overcome them?

Biggest challenge has been reactiveness. Reactive to everything from the beginning but with  slowly introducing triggers and rewarding for not reacting over months helped greatly. She is still reactive of strange men but went from barking, trying to run away and snapping to just a low growl and will still allow them to pet her and she will take treats from them. Having our senior, confident dog really helped her adjust fast.

5. How did your wadi change your life?

Changed our life by introducing new strategies for dog training, for the first few months unable to leave her with people. However now she’s changed it for the better, she teaches us patience and to respect not only her, but others boundaries as well.

6. What is your favourite thing about your wadi?

Our favourite thing is just how funny and goofy and how fast she is! She will play by herself and throw a ball in the air to try to catch it. As well as wakes us up by bouncing on the bed. Part kangaroo! Did I mention all the snuggles? As well as watching her experience things for the first time!
